Subway Photo Series

Last year I finally bought my first Nikon DSLR, a D3200. I’m still a newbie when it comes to photography, but I’ve always wanted to take it up as a hobby. However, I haven’t been able to take advantage of my new camera as much as I’d like. So I was thinking, it would be great to take my camera out while I challenge myself to photograph on all the NYC subway lines. Of course it will take me a while to accomplish, specially if I want to capture as much as possible along the entire length of each route. But I think it’ll be a fun way to use my DSLR, while exploring the subway, and give me great material to post here.

Asian Squatter

Apparently it’s an Asian thing to squat when you can’t find a seat nearby. Sounds logical, but I find people doing it at illogical places, like street corners, checkout lines, & the edge of subway platforms. I previously posted a picture of an Asian man squatting on the F train platform. Today I saw another Asian man doing it on the A train platform, pictured below. This action is not restricted to Asian men only. I’ve also seen women doing it, mostly older ones though.

Hole-y Man

After work yesterday, we took the A train, on our way to the Grand Central Station Apple Store. I needed to replace my iPhone case & M.R. needed to replace his New iPad (long story, not mine to tell). I managed to get a tight seat, with M.R. standing in front of me. The man next to him was wearing a plain white tee, very ordinary. What caught my attention were the holes in it. They were big enough to stick my thumb in them, not that I would of course, lol. I just thought, did he need the extra ventilation from the scorching heat? It also reminded me of the Dominican wife’s tale that if you have holes in your shirt, you had a secret lover. If that were the case, this man, as out of shape & sloppy as he was, is very popular, lol.
