Practically Suicidal

Yesterday, we were waiting for the downtown N train, when I spotted the Asian man pictured below on the opposite platform. As you can see, he was squatting right by the edge of the platform. At first glance it looked like he was about to jump into the tracks, but it was obvious he was just being practical about the absence of benches on the uptown platform.

However, one can only ask why he positioned himself so close to the edge. I mean, regardless of how good his balance is, any slight bump from a passerby could send him down into the tracks, possibly to his accidental (?) death. I admit to squatting when there isn’t available seating on the platform & on the train, specially when my blood pressure goes down. But I always do it close to a support column or wall, not touching either of course, or holding on to a pole on the train.

Because our train arrived before his, we’ll never know how he ended up. Most likely he got a seat on his train & stretched out his legs to avoid tight hamstrings, lol.
